Pinpoint the Source of Your Pain–Quickly and Effectively

At Unified Rehabilitation, we know the most effective way to address pain is by resolving it at its source. We speed up this process through biofeedback technology, which helps us learn more about how your body responds to stimuli.

Biofeedback utilizes different equipment and instruments to provide visual, physical, or auditory feedback about your body. With every small adjustment in your body–such as contracting a muscle or taking deep breaths–you can “see” or “hear” the effect of those adjustments.

This approach helps you better understand what different movements or exercises are doing for you and ensure you’re performing them correctly.

Different Types of Biofeedback

There are many ways to measure your body’s physiological responses. You’re probably familiar with EKG monitors, which measure heart rate through carefully placed electrodes and present it visually on a screen. This is one type of biofeedback, although it’s not the only kind!

These examples illustrate the data they measure in real time, usually through visuals and auditory signals.

  • Electromyography (EMG): Uses electrodes to measure muscle activity. It can help with pain management and improving muscle strength.
  • Heart rate variability (HRV): Measures the variation in time between heartbeats. This feedback can help regulate breathing, promoting relaxation and stress relief (which can help lower blood pressure).
  • Thermal biofeedback: Measures your body temperature. Through various exercises, it can help improve blood circulation, reduce stress, and manage pain.
  • Respiratory feedback: Measures breathing patterns. It can help you learn to breathe more slowly and deeply, which helps with pain management, stress reduction, and improving outcomes from COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

The Benefits of Biofeedback

We incorporate biofeedback into our treatment plans as a tool for helping you get the most out of your physical therapy sessions. The additional metrics will help you understand and monitor your progress.

Ultimately, we see biofeedback as a way to enhance your treatment–whether managing chronic pain, rehabilitating after an injury or surgery, or simply working to improve your sports performance. We’ll work closely with you to determine the right types of biofeedback for your needs.

I have been working with Anh a few weeks now, and she has already done wonders to my recovery. The staff is super friendly and compassionate. I would 1,000 times recommend them to friends and family.

I was told I needed a shoulder replacement for my right shoulder but decided to try Unified Rehabilitation as they had been highly recommended to me. I must say they exceeded my expectations. In a just a few months, I no longer have any pain and now enjoy total mobility of my shoulder. In addition to that, we have been able to do strength training on the muscles supporting my shoulder and can do activities now I could not do a year ago. Thank you to the team at Unified Rehabilitation!
