What is Parkinson's Disease?


Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative condition that affects about 10 million people world wide, about 60,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Parkinson’s disease affects a part of the brain known as the basal ganglia and substantia nigra. You may see symptoms such as:

Physical Symptoms
  • Tremors
  • One arm doesn’t swing while walking
  • Difficulty walking
  • Freezing gait
  • Shuffling gait
  • Forward head tilt
  • Pain
    • Joint pain
    • Pain from stiff muscles
    • Pain from lack of movement
  • Low voice volume
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Drooling
Mental Symptoms
  • Depression
  • Pain
  • Sadness
  • Anxiety
  • Hallucinations
  • Impulsive behavior
