Vestibular & Vertigo

Vestibular rehabilitation is a very specialized type of physical therapy that is used to treat disorders of the inner ear and balance system. These disorders can cause a variety of symptoms, including dizziness, vertigo, and difficulty with balance and coordination.

Vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) is an exercise-based program that is designed to improve the symptoms of inner ear and balance disorders. It can help to reduce dizziness, improve balance and coordination, and increase the patient's confidence in their ability to perform daily activities.

These exercises help to reduce the symptoms of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) by moving crystals in the inner ear that have become dislodged.

At Unified Rehabilitation a specially trained and certified vestibular therapist will work with you to diagnose and create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs and goals. This may include exercises to improve balance and coordination, as well as techniques to help manage and reduce dizziness.

In addition to exercises, the therapist may also use other techniques such as Habituation and  Desensitization training.

The number of sessions needed for vestibular rehabilitation varies for each individual, but most patients see improvement within the first few weeks of starting the therapy. It is important to continue with the exercises and techniques even after the therapy is finished, to maintain the gains and prevent relapse.

If you or a loved one are experiencing symptoms of an inner ear or balance disorder or told you have an inner ear issue by your physician, vestibular rehabilitation may be an effective treatment option. Call today to schedule your appointment and experience relief.
